Bettor Collects $120K on TX State Upset
William Hill sports books was one of the only bet shops to offer a money line on last Saturday’s game between Houston and Texas State. Much to the joy of one customer in Las Vegas.
The lucky bettor cashed a $2,000 wager on Texas State — a 60-to-1 underdog to the Cougars last Saturday — and cashed out with $120,000 following the Bobcats’ 30-13 upset victory, according to R.J. Bell of Pregame.com. Houston was favored to win by 35 points. It was previously reported by Vegas Insider that the individual placed a $3,000 bet at 30-to-1 odds for a $105,000 pay out.
Regardless, $2,000 is a lot of faith to have in a team playing its first game at the FBS level against a school in Houston that went 13-1 last season. But that confidence was certainly rewarded.
About the only way this bettor could have made more money is if the fictional Texas State squad from the 1991 film Necessary Roughness upset the top-ranked University of Texas Colts.
