‘Bama Hero Krauss in Motivational Speaking
Twenty-four years after the 1979 Sugar Bowl, the likelihood that former Alabama linebacker Barry Krauss has to buy himself a drink in and around the Tuscaloosa area remain very slim.
Such is the treatment one receives in response to arguably the most famous tackle in Crimson Tide history. Krauss’ hit on Penn State RB Mike Guman on fourth-and-goal from the half-yard line while ‘Bama clung to a 14–7 lead in the fourth quarter still resonates to this day, as it secured Alabama’s 10th national title.
Krauss was no one-hit wonder either, as he was a two-time All-American with the Tide and enjoyed an 11-year NFL career with the Colts and Dolphins. Today, he lives in Carmel, IN, with his wife, Darcy - with whom he has four children - while working as a motivational speaker and a sideline reporter for Alabama football games.
