Air Force Gets Wacky Blackout Uniforms
“Blackouts” are all the rage in college football these days and the Air Force Academy got in on the action Saturday during a home game with Navy.
Unfortunately, the Falcons entrusted their blackout uniforms to Nike, which once again went off the deep end with the design.
As you can see below, Air Force’s black unis were given a bizarre steel pattern on the shoulders similar to Oregon’s feathered look they are sporting this season and looking studded. The helmet features the same pattern that clutters the awesome lightning bolt on the lid, combined with not one, but two helmet stripes. The first is a massive black matte stripe. Inside that is an Ultramarine Blue stripe that narrows toward the back.
The only cool part of the blackout unis are the name plates, which have “F-22 RAPTOR” or “B-2 SPIRIT” instead of player names.
While we are sure the Air Force players love them, we are unapologetically against this look - especially because Air Force’s normal uniforms are such classics. Grade: D
