WR Blackmon, QB Boyd Have Epic Gaffes
All is well in the worlds of Oklahoma State and Clemson after huge wins on Saturday, so big flubs by those schools’ star players will be nothing but foot notes.
But we still feel the need to point out two of the more clumsy plays of the season by Cowboys star receiver Justin Blackmon and Tigers standout quarterback Tajh Boyd, who cost their teams touchdowns in different ways.
Check the video below of Blackmon catching a pass in the flat before running toward the end zone for a walk-in touchdown. Except, while hot-dogging, he dropped the ball and lost it out of the back of the end zone for a Texas A&M touchback. It would have given OSU a two-score lead late in the third quarter. Leave it to ESPN’s Matt Millen to sum it up this way: “That is not well done.”
For his part, Boyd scrambled out the pocket early in the third against Florida State, tripped and tried to throw the ball away to avoid a loss of yardage. Instead, the ball went straight up in the air - and right to Seminoles defensive end Bjoern Werner, who returned it for a touchdown to cut FSU’s deficit to 21-17. Not only is the play on YouTube, it’s already in GIF form.
Oklahoma State went out to hold off Texas A&M, 30-29, in a battle of top 10 teams, while Clemson handed Florida State its second straight loss, 35-30, in an ACC battle. Blackmon had 11 catches for 121 yards and a TD, while Boyd three for 344 yards and three scores.
But if there was an ESPY for Worst Play of the Year, these two gaffes would certainly be in the running.
