MWC: Boise Can’t Wear Home All-Blues

Boise State will not be allowed to wear its all-blue uniforms at home this season for conference games, a stipulation for entrance into the Mountain West Conference, according to ESPN.com on Tuesday.

Coaches have been complaining for years that the Broncos have an unfair advantage with their blue-on-blue setup that blends the players into the field. Boise State famously plays its home games on blue turf.

San Diego State coach Rocky Long made his opposition known in April, saying that it takes the opponent a quarter or two to get used to the turf.

Boise head coach Chris Petersen was displeased, to say the least, at Mountain West media days yesterday, saying: “I thought it was ridiculous… That’s our colors. That’s who we are. That’s who our fans have wanted us to be since I’ve been at Boise State. That’s what it’s been through and through.”

We agree with Petersen. It seems like a bit our sour grapes to tell a successful program that it can join a conference as long as it changes its identity.

What’s next? “Oh yeah, Boise, you can’t bring Kellen Moore with you either - that’s part of the deal.”
