Florida St.‘s James Hit With ‘U-S-A’ Chant

Bernard James had to wait until the second round for his big moment on Thursday. But it’s likely something that he will never forget.

Taken with the 33rd overall pick out of Florida State, James was snagged by the Cleveland Cavaliers but eventually traded to the Dallas Mavericks. But that wasn’t what people who were watching the broadcast will remember.

James, 27, served in the United States Air Force for six years doing tours of duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and Qatar. So when he rose to head to the stage and greet NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver, the remaining crowd chanted “U-S-A! U-S-A!”

It was such a genuine moment that ESPN even replayed it moments later so that viewers could soak in the chant.

We wish James much luck at the next level, even though success in the NBA would be a footnote in his already accomplished life.
