Michigan DT Arrested for Late-Night Stunt

Michigan defensive tackle Will Campbell has been arrested for malicious destruction of property - including one felony and misdemeanor - from an incident on April 7 and was arraigned Thursday, according to reports.

AnnArbor.com reported that the felony is for destruction of property that’s worth more than $1,000 and less than $20,000, while the misdemeanor is for the property that’s more than $200 and less than $1,000.

But the details of the arrest, according to the report, detail a stunt that has gotten Campbell into the trouble.

According to AnnArbor.com, which cited police, the 322-pound Campbell tried to slide across the hood of a car at 2 a.m. on April 7. The report said that a nearby officer heard sheet metal on the car “buckle” under the big man. Police also said that Campbell was intoxicated at the time, the report said.

It’s unclear what this will mean for Campbell going forward, as Michigan has yet to comment as of Friday morning, but the stunt seems to be out of character for Campbell, who is a good kid, according to his lawyer Donald Payne.

“He’s a very nice, mild-mannered young man and he’s never been in trouble in his life,” Payne told AnnArbor.com. “As far as the facts in the case, we’re going to work it out in talking to the prosecutor.”

The five-star recruit from Detroit, who is hoping to live up to expectations as a senior, will be back in court on June, the report said.
