CBB Madness in ‘13 at Cowboys Stadium?
Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis has always been a “think outside the box” athletic director. His most notable accomplishment in that regard was college basketball’s inaugural Carrier Classic in 2011, pitting his Spartans against North Carolina on a court aboard the USS Carl Vinson.
For Veterans Day 2013, Hollis has an even more ambitious idea: Four games taking place simultaneously in Cowboys Stadium - the site of the 2014 Final Four - with the courts abutting one another.
“We’re going to squeeze everything into a three-hour time period,” Hollis told Sports Illustrated’s Seth Davis. “We’re talking with eight institutions right now that have a very high interest and have that weekend open.”
We love Hollis’ ambition, but there needs to be significantly more logistical planning if he wants to see this work (e.g. how to tell which whistles come from which game’s referees).
And selfishly, we’d rather see if his proposed “Trojan War” game between the Spartans and USC Trojans in Greece comes to fruition first.
