Dantonio: Where’s Threat from Michigan?

Michigan and head coach Brady Hoke will have a little extra motivation to beat Michigan State for the first time since 2007.

We say that because Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio lobbed a grenade toward the Wolverines, according to ESPN.com on Wednesday.

“We’re laying in the weeds,” Dantonio said, according to the report. “We’ve beat Michigan the last four years. So where’s the threat?”

Dantonio’s comment refers to the feeling that Michigan has returned to the stature of college football elite thanks to Brady Hoke, who guided the Wolverines to an awaited win over Ohio State and a Sugar Bowl victory in his first season.

Dantonio, though, doesn’t want his Spartans overlooked. They have posted a 22-5 mark in the last two seasons, were entrants in the first-ever Big Ten title game and capped the campaign with their first bowl win since 2001.

And MSU continued to beat Michigan, which surely will be on alert when the teams face off on Oct. 20.
