OSU’s Meyer Apologizes for Purple Unis

Comments

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has got under the skin of just about everyone since being hired in November.

Since his arrival in Columbus, Meyer has caused opposing coaches to squawk about his recruiting practices and lobbed a grenade at Michigan’s academics for the football team. But now an LGBT group and Ohio State alumni society, Scarlet and Gay, told Meyer that it doesn’t approve of the Buckeyes’ football players earning lavender jerseys for “loafing” in practice, according to The Lantern on Wednesday. Meyer responded with an apology letter.

“Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the purple mesh pullovers,” the letter read, according to The Lantern. “The use of purple was never intended to be used to offend anyone, but since it has, we have taken steps to change the color.

“Please accept our sincere apologies. We have core values of respect and honor within our program, and these are two principles that are central to my personal life, my coaching and to Ohio State and its athletics programs. Bias has absolutely no role in how we think or operate.”

OSU athletics spokesman Jerry Emig told The Lantern that the program has changed the color of the jerseys to an unspecified hue.

First, we think the LGBT group is being overly sensitive on this issue.

Second, call it a hunch, but we have a feeling the new color for loafers will be either maize or blue.
