2. Joey Harrington goes big

How much is a Heisman Trophy worth for a school? In the case of Oregon, it was $250,000, which was how much Oregon paid for the Heisman hype campaign for Joey Harrington, with much of that money going into an infamous Times Square billboard in New York City that labeled Harrington “Joey Heisman.”

We have to believe somewhere in Eugene was a chemistry professor depressed over the thought of how many beakers that money could’ve purchased instead of a giant billboard on the other side of the country. To Harrington’s, credit he played as well as he could have that season but he finished fourth in Heisman voting that season. So Oregon ended up spending about $686 per point Harrington received in voting. Let’s hope they passed the tab to Phil Knight.
