James: I Will Never Ride in Gay Parade

Comments

It should be to no one’s surprise that former SMU and NFL standout Craig James, a Republican from Texas running for Senate, made comments in opposition to gay marriage when speaking in a debate Wednesday.

For context, James’ opponent, Dallas mayor Tom Leppert, reportedly rode in a gay pride parade.

Said James in the debate: “I think right now in this country, our moral fiber is sliding down a slope that is going to be hard to stop if we don’t stand up with leaders who don’t go ride in gay parades. I can assure you I will never ride in a gay parade. And I hear what you’re saying, Tom, but leaders - our kids out there people need to see examples.”

After a moderator asked James whether or not being gay is a choice, James said the following.

“I think that you have to make that choice. But in that case right there, they are going to have to answer to the Lord for their actions. We should not give benefits to those civil unions,” he said.

Put your political leanings to the side for a moment, forget your stance on this particular social issue and consider that James - whether he wins a seat or not - may want to return to ESPN college football broadcasting.

As Awful Announcing pointed out, the Worldwide Leader may not want to feature someone whose political ideologies turn off a portion of its viewers. It’s at least some food for thought.
