Will TAMU Allow Dance Team at Kyle?

It’s all about tradition at Texas A&M, where football games at Kyle Field - home of the “12th Man” - are known as some of the wildest scenes in sports.

That’s why there has been some opposition to the Aggies bringing the female Texas Aggie Dance team to football games as part of the game-day presentation - an idea that has been floated around again recently.

“What is A&M known for?” A&M graduate Jon Johnson asked the Houston Chronicle. “Tradition. A dance team at Kyle would make A&M like everybody else - it would not make A&M different in any sense.”

Click on the link below, in which the Houston Chronicle explains both sides of the argument. However, the following statement from school should give an idea as to how serious the issue is in College Station.

“Any time we look at an issue of this nature, our response is always going to be, how does it affect the game-day atmosphere at Kyle Field, and would it infringe upon our traditions or our uniqueness,” Jason Cook, A&M’s vice president for marketing and communications, told the newspaper.

“We take decisions of this nature very seriously and very deliberately.”

It seems strange that this issue even is up for discussion since most fans are left drooling over female cheerleaders like those at Oregon and USC’s “Song Girls” and would have a protest if they weren’t allowed to perform. But at A&M, things are a little different.
