Ex-Harvard Player Blogs About ‘Linsanity’

Comments

Everyone has an opinion on “Linsanity,” the incredible star turn for former Harvard guard Jeremy Lin with the New York Knicks - even Lin’s former Harvard teammate Drew Housman.

Now a professional basketball player in Israel, Housman has a blog of his own but wrote a guest piece for ESPN’s True Hoop, in which he described his own amazement over his friend and former teammate’s rise to stardom.

Here’s a sample passage: “If you had told me in the fall of 2006 that Jeremy Lin was going to become the most-talked-about athlete in New York City I would have literally laughed in your face. As far as I was concerned he was a scrawny freshman with no jump shot who never stopped talking about how much he missed In-n-Out Burger.”

That sounds about right, considering how Lin’s emergence has come out of left field. Speaking of baseball, Housman wrote as if he were the Harvard basketball version of Wally Pipp.

Lin took the keys to Housman’s team when Housman was injured during his junior year. But even if Housman admitted that it’s hard not to be envious, he truly is happy for his former teammate.

“If you should be the starting point guard for the New York Knicks, then you’d be the starting point guard for the New York Knicks,” Housman wrote, channeling a line from “The Social Network.”

“Simple as that. Give the man his due.”
