Nick Saban Ranks Okie State at No. 4

Comments

After Oklahoma State’s impressive 44-10 rout of Oklahoma on Saturday night, many people claimed the Cowboys deserved a shot against No. 1 LSU in the national title game instead of Alabama.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban thought differently, ranking Oklahoma State at No. 4 on his final USA Today Top 25 ballot. He ranked Stanford, a fellow one-loss team, as the third-ranked squad.

He wasn’t the only coach to rank the Cowboys lower than third, as Air Force’s Troy Calhoun had Okie State at No. 5.

The difference is that Saban’s vote directly helped his own team play for the national title on Jan. 9. Hey, maybe Saban was much more impressed with Stanford’s 28-14 win over Notre Dame than Okie State’s 34-point demolition of the tenth-ranked Sooners. Um, right.

While Saban isn’t the reason Oklahoma State wound up in the Fiesta Bowl instead and we’re sure Alabama will say the school’s sports information director cast the ballot (which could very well be true), you can rest assured Saban is now persona non grata in Stillwater.

Then again, outside Tuscaloosa, where isn’t that that case?
