Matchmaking CFB Players & Celebrities

We are always on the lookout for the next power couple that merges the sports and celebrity cultures. Inspired by the recent divorce of Kim Kardashian, let’s do some matchmaking by using some of college football’s biggest stars as one half of the equation.

Which gridiron stars and Hollywood starlets would be a good fit together? We examine.

Editor’s Note: Oklahoma’s Landry Jones, Oklahoma State’s Brandon Weeden, Houston’s Case Keenum, Boise State’s Kellen Moore and Baylor’s Robert Griffin not included because all are either engaged or married.

.

De’Anthony Thomas & Kim Kardashian

We know the 31-year-old Kardashian likes younger men, and Thomas - who will turn 19 in January - would allow her to return to the gridiron for her next love interest. Kardashian is recently divorced from New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries, 26, and used to date Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush.

The electric Thomas, a freshman at Oregon, has been compared to Bush on the field. And Thomas also is from Los Angeles and grew up close to the L.A. Coliseum. Looks like these two could be a natural fit.

.

Stephen Garcia & Lindsay Lohan

This pair would be nothing but trouble. But like the famous Chris Rock bit goes - and we’ll keep it clean - couples need something in common, no matter what it is.

In all seriousness, Garcia - who was kicked off South Carolina’s football team this fall reportedly for his troubles with alcohol and drugs after already being suspended five times - and the troubled actress Lohan need to clean up their acts. They could do it together.

.

Vontaze Burfict & Rihanna

Rihanna likes bad boys - just refer to her time with infamous hot head Chris Brown. No one is badder on the field than Burfict, who has been repeatedly reprimanded for his brainless penalties, including a wicked cheap shot on Oregon State QB Ryan Katz last season.

If Burfict can mature, the Arizona State linebacker is headed toward NFL stardom - and he’ll need a celebrity singer on his arm to make it all complete.

.

Andrew Luck & Emma Stone

This would be a match made in heaven, as both Luck and Stone have seen their stars rise recently. Luck, the Stanford quarterback, is one of the most-hyped NFL draft prospects in recent memory, while Stone has become the “It” girl one of American’s sweethearts with a recent Golden Globe nomination for her role in 2010’s “Easy A.”

Sure, she gave Jonah Hill’s underdog character a shot in “Superbad,” but we know she belongs with the big man on campus in real life. Oh yeah, and they both have really deep voices.

.

Tommy Rees & Taylor Swift

Swift, one of the biggest pop stars in the world, has an excuse to be in South Bend, where her brother is a sophomore at Notre Dame. So, we’re telling Rees there’s a chance.

Swift even visited last year for the Irish’s 23-12, season-opening victory over Purdue. But Rees didn’t play in the game. Yes, he’s two years younger, but all hope isn’t lost. An All-American kid if there ever was one, they can both relate to life in the spotlight.

.

Matt Barkley & Kristin Cavallari

With no professional football team in Los Angeles, USC quarterbacks have become the town’s leading men and play boys. Matt Leinart and Mark Sanchez have been recent examples of that. Why not add Barkley to that list?

Cavallari is a former reality TV star that loves big-time quarterbacks, starting with Leinart and now with an on-and-off relationship with Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. We think it’s time she gets back to her SoCal roots and pair up with a nice guy instead of the eternally dour Cutler.

.

Sammy Watkins & Kate Upton

Watkins has burst on the scene at Clemson, which he helped to one of its best starts in recent memory. The wide receiver no doubt is the freshman of the year in college football, making him a perfect match for Upton, the “Rookie of the Year” Sports Illustrated model who wowed America with her appearance in the swimsuit issue earlier this year.

Upton, 19, was rumored to be dating Kanye West, but the 18-year-old Watkins would be more in the supermodel’s age bracket.

.

Tyrann Mathieu & Britney Spears

The “Honey Badger” has become a popular figure in Baton Rouge for his dynamic play on the field and his popular nickname. It doesn’t hurt that the Tigers are undefeated and coming off a 9-6 win over powerhouse Alabama in the latest “Game of the Century.”

Spears is a fellow Louisiana native whose next relationship can never be predicted. From her latest song, we know Spears likes criminals. So she must have loved the Honey Badger’s recent synthetic marijuana suspension. Remember the last time Spears was involved with someone from the Bayou? She briefly married former childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas.

We think Spears and Mathieu could last more than 55 hours.

.

James Vandenberg & Demi Moore

Yes, the Iowa star quarterback is just 22-years old. But let’s remember that the 48-year-old Moore likes her men young, like current husband Ashton Kutcher, who is 33.

There were rumors that Moore and Kutcher were on the outs after alleged infidelity by the “Two and a Half Men” star; now’s your chance, James! Kutcher, an Iowa native, is a die-hard Hawkeyes fan, and nothing would Punk Kutcher more than leaving him for Iowa’s star quarterback.

.

A.J. McCarron & J Woww

If you watch “Jersey Shore,” you know that J Woww falls for the heavily tattooed type like her current beau, Roger. Why not pair her up with the man with college football’s most-distinct chest tat?

J Woww would have to step outside the box and date a Southern “juicehead” instead of one from the Northeast. But we think she will be head over heels when McCarron fits her name alongside “Bama Boy” on his chest.

.

Joe Martinek & Snooki

Doesn’t the Rutgers fullback just look like he belongs on the Jersey Shore? Nicknamed “Jersey Joe,” we wouldn’t be surprised if Martinek joined the show’s cast after he finishes his senior season in a couple weeks.

So, if this whole Jionni thing doesn’t work out, we think that it would be perfect if New Jersey’s unofficial first lady could date the fullback at New Jersey’s state university.

.

Denard Robinson & Nicki Minaj

Robinson has been a star at Michigan and sometimes a one-man band on offense. But it’s his energy that we think would draw him together with the irrepressible Minaj, a New York City native and megastar rapper.

Minaj was discovered by Lil Wayne, who bares a striking resemblance to Robinson. There’s too many good vibes for this not to happen.

Joe Bauserman & Pippa Middleton

We’re going with the “opposite attracts” theory on this one. So why not the 26-year-old backup Ohio State quarterback who has been ridiculed for his inaccuracy and the sister of the new Duchess of Cambridge? She’s turned into an icon for beauty and elegance and he’s got the caveman look going on with that beard.

We don’t know about you, but we think Bauserman has a British feel to him.

.

Bryce Brown & Mischa Barton

Remember when these two were supposed to be the next big things? Brown was the No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2009 and Barton was the star of the FOX hit show, “The O.C.” Well both have seen their careers go up in smoke recently, as Brown transferred from Tennessee to Kansas State but has carried the ball three times this season. He may be finished in the Little Apple and reportedly could be taking his talents to the NFL.

Barton has virtually disappeared since “The O.C.” was canceled in 2006 and surfaced only with controversy swirling around her. Both have seemingly vanished and could make a great couple as they both try to figure out what to do next.

.

Trent Fisher & Minka Kelly

We’ve already mentioned how much Jeff Fisher’s son and Auburn freshman defensive back Trent Fisher looks like “Friday Night Lights” character Tim Riggins. So how fitting would it be for Fisher to date Minka Kelly, who played Riggins’ love interest in the show, Lyla Garrity?

Fisher might be a rebound for Esquire’s 2010 “Sexiest Woman Alive” after her break-up with New York Yankee Derek Jeter, but weren’t guessing Fisher wouldn’t mind.
