Spud Webb Coaching Strippers in Hoops
First there was lingerie football, now there’s stripper basketball.
Enter Spud Webb. The former NC State and NBA standout has put forth a good post-playing career during which he is currently the President of the Texas Legends (the Dallas Mavericks’ D-League affiliate). But that doesn’t mean that he’s no longer a showman.
Webb will coach basketball team full of strippers from Rick’s Cabaret in New York City - supposedly one of the city’s top gentlemen’s clubs (we wouldn’t know).
Best known for his 1986 Slam Dunk title as a member of the Atlanta Hawks, the 5-foot-7 Webb played in the NBA for four teams from 1985-98. He landed at Midland Junior College in Texas before playing under Jim Valvano at NC State.
“These ladies are fabulous and have obvious talents and skills. I can’t think of a better way to entertain long-suffering NBA fans,” Webb said during a Monday press conference.
“He’s a hero to people of all sizes and he shows that anyone can accomplish anything,” said Gianna, a PG on the New York team which will compete against other strip clubs from Rick’s Cabaret International, Inc. in the “Rick’s Basketball Association.” “Of course we are happy the NBA is coming back in December—they are some of our best customers. We’ll play ‘til the NBA season starts because our fans and customers want it.”
