James Supporters: ‘Bomb’ Won’t Slow Us
The Craig James Senate campaign is facing the same problem as Rick Santorum’s Presidential bid: A nasty Google bomb.
A “Google bomb” is rigging the search engine for satirical purposes. A bomb was created for Santorum after he upset the gay community in 2003 that resulted in openly-gay sex columnist Dan Savage defining Santorum on the internet as “the frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex.” It is now the first thing that shows up when you type “Santorum” into Google. And the more people talk about it, the more Google strength it receives.
Well, James has been facing his own Google bomb in the form of an internet joke that he killed five hookers while at SMU, a spin off of Gilbert Gottfried’s roast of Bob Saget. And with the ESPN analyst now running for U.S. Senate, it’s not exactly the third suggestion his supporters want Google offering users when you type “Craig James” into the search box.
The “official” Twitter feed for James’ supporters deemed the internet rumor relevant enough to tweet about on Thursday.
Tweeted @James4Senate: “Ever heard of a Google Bomb? http://bit.ly/wmFUr9 They’re a headache, but they won’t slow down this campaign.”
It could have been prompted by this poem from a blogger that brought it to the foreground. The blogger donated $5 to James’ campaign for the right to vertically spell out “Hooker Killer” with the first letter of each line in the poem.
The Google bomb may not slow down the campaign but it doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
