App St. Forward Wore Misspelled Jersey

Everyone knows Appalachian State as the Boone, NC, university whose football team upset Michigan at the Big House in 2007. But Appalachain State? Is that a physics principle we haven’t heard of before?

The victim of the misspelling was Jay Canty, a forward on the Mountaineers basketball team. During last Friday’s game at Virginia Tech, the front of the sophomore’s jersey somehow had the fourth “A” and the “I” in reverse order.

And unlike the incident three years ago when MLB’s Washington Nationals took the field wearing jerseys that spelled out “Natinals” instead, Canty seems to be the only player on his team to experience a jersey fail (according to the ASU photo gallery from the game).

Hilariously, Canty scored a team-high 21 points in the Mountaineers’ loss to the Hokies. Maybe head coach Jason Capel should rotate a misspelled jersey between his players for every game.
