If Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel plays his cards right, perhaps one day he can have the same outsized legacy as John David Crow — the only other Aggies player to win the Heisman Trophy.
A halfback from Springhill, LA, Crow won college football’s most prestigious individual award 55 years before Johnny Football did. Despite playing just seven games due to injury, Crow accounted for 11 touchdowns — six rushing and five passing — and recorded five interceptions on defense during the 1957 season.
After turning pro, Crow enjoyed an 11-year NFL career with the Cardinals and 49ers, making the Pro Bowl four times. Following his retirement from playing in 1968, Crow spent the next 33 years as a college coach and athletics administrator. He is now fully retired and living in College Station, TX, at the age of 77.
