9. Joe Jamail Jr. (Texas)

Time and Newsweek have called him the “King of Torts” because this guy has made a lot of money as a personal injury lawyer. In fact, his $11.2 billion verdict against Texaco in 1985 is considered a world record for civil damages awards. But more impressive than that is the fact the man has not one, but two bronze statues of himself on campus at Texas. And the field is named after him, which is also a pretty big deal. Just ask Mack Brown.

After then-coach John Mackovic was fired in 1998, the selection committee asked for Jamail’s advice before hiring Brown. Then Brown was instructed to call up Jamail and ask for his permission for a job he was offered in the first place. Of course Brown called.
