New Florida coach Will Muschamp is showing why has he become famous for his intensity.
This time, though, Muschamp isn’t directing his anger toward a player who missed an assignment. He is mad at the NCAA for extending its suspension of defensive end Sharrif Floyd.
Floyd missed the Gators’ season-opening win over FAU after it was ruled that he had received impermissible financial assistance. An NCAA press release said that Floyd had received $2,500 for living expenses from someone not connected to Florida. The NCAA ruled yesterday that Floyd will be forced to miss this weekend’s game against UAB as well.

Muschamp suggested that it’s excessive to force Floyd to sit out another game. Here is what Muschamp said in part, according to the Palm Beach Post:
“I’m angered, disgusted and extremely disappointed that Sharrif will have to miss two games. In my opinion Sharrif is getting lumped into what is bad about college athletics. … Sharrif is what is good about college athletics – his life is about survival, struggle, disappointment and adversity.”
According to reports, Floyd will be eligible to return against Tennessee on September 17. Muschamp should be cooled off by then – we think.
