[Update: LSU SID Michael Bonnette said on Thursday (Aug. 25) that Russell did not in fact enroll for the fall semester.]
Former LSU star JaMarcus Russell plans to return to school this fall, Michael Bonnette, the school’s sports information director, tweeted last week.
Bonnette said that Russell was at LSU’s football practice recently and provided the information himself. Bonnette told Lost Lettermen that Russell has already moved back to Baton Rouge and is close to acquiring his degree after leaving early for the NFL draft.
Russell was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft and started for the Oakland Raiders for two seasons before eventually losing his job to Bruce Gradkowski in 2009. Russell was arrested last summer for having “Purple Drank” and spent all of last fall out football.
With his 26th birthday on Tuesday, it appears more and more likely we will never see Russell throw a football again. JaMarcus Russell profile
