Matt Millen Epically Flubs Question

We bet ESPN feels really good about making Matt Millen exclusively a college football analyst for the upcoming season.

We mean that sarcastically, of course, considering his most recent comments about the quarterback situation at Miami (FL), which has its roster in turmoil thanks to the pending investigation into the program by the NCAA.

Quarterback Jacory Harris is one of the ‘Canes players who is suspended for the season opener. So, Matt Millen, who will be Miami’s starter instead?

“I would expect there to be Jarrett Lee … that would be my best guess, having not watched them, I want to get down there to watch them in practice, and we have them in the opener… umm… it would be… that’s interesting.  I’m going to try to get down there this week, try to get a handle on the whole thing.”

To clear things up, yes, that’s the same Jarrett Lee who is a senior quarterback at LSU and replacing Jordan Jefferson as the starter because of Jordan’s suspension.

We are going to skip the obligatory Detroit Lions general manager joke here, and just tell you that Lee won’t be starting for the Hurricanes. According to reports, Stephen Morris will be the starter for “The U.”

    How did this turkey get his ESPN job, and why do they
    keep him on the payroll ? After his many years os dumb
    moves at Detroit, I would hope that ESPN, and other Sport
    Networks would quit hiring them.

    He may have been a good(?) player, but he sucks ever
    since then.

    I suppose that next we will see him as a Head Coach…

    Who’s surprised at this? The only thing that surprised me years ago aboiut MM is that someone took this average middle linebacker and all of a sudden made him a GM and then the President of the Lions. Whose picturesd did Millen have in his back pocket? I never saw him make a intelligent football comment, decision as an “executive”, and believe he was the foremeost reason the Lions stayed bad for so long. No surprise that now that he’s out of there, they’re doing better (of course helped by Suh. Stafford, et al.) Whenever I’ve seen him doing analysis “work”, he comes across as uninformed and under pressure to make an intellgent comment. Who does this guy know?

    The NFL is one the last ‘good ol boy’ organizations left, with exception of corporate America. They just keep recyling loser coaches, GM’s, assistants, broadcasters etc.

    This guy is dumber than a box of rocks. But he will likely be a high paid coach someday.

    Matt Millen is the worst ! He should not be talking about football at any level (even highschool). Everytime Matt is on TV talking complete verbal garbage I turn the channel. You all should too! He is the worst. I would also like to question the intelligence of the individuals hiring this idiot. Matt Millen needs to just go away!

    Often the networks like to make an analyst out of a former player whether he’s going to be good at it or not. (Of the many that have come and gone, Tiki Barber comes to mind). Millen has always been a mortal man walking among the gods. He has always subscribed to the belief that man’s grasp should outlay his reach.

    Matt Millen is atrocious. He once said Howie Long was a better defensive end than Bruce Smith because Smith was “a one-dimensional player.” I guess being one of the greatest 3-4 pass rushers of all time (White, Jones, Taylor, Smith, you pick the order) makes you one-dimensional. No disrespect to Long, but they’re comparable players when you factor in the fact that Smith was always doubled, sometimes TRIPLED teamed on plays. That’s just an absolutely stupid comment born out of zero football knowledge and terrible stubbornness. Horrible combination for a commentator. Millen epitomizes the lazy color commentator. Can’t stand him.

    Millen know so much about college talent; how many of his, what? forty–fifty draft picks with the lions are even still in pro-ball. I will give him this. He is crafty enough to get some one to pay him while most of us change channels when he comes on.
