Joe Paterno does still have his supporters, even if they are misguided teenagers on Facebook.
Citing a tipster, Deadspin provided us with the below Facebook status of who they describe as a 19-year-old named Adam. Check the screenshot below as well.
“Hearing people say they should take down the Joe Paterno statue is making me sick to my stomach. most bowl wins in history! no one can take that away!”
We imagine that there are a lot of people who are in disagreement with Adam. But the one with the most-biting response – that we are aware of, at least – is his mother Anne, who commented the following on her son’s status:
“I am a Penn State fan and it is sad to say that Joe Paterno..his statue and wins should be erased from the history of Penn State football if at all possible…young boys were raped and Paterno and the rest of those scumbags had the opportunity to stop it and did nothing..for the sake of football..Adam..you are grounded…really think about it..what if it was someone you loved..they were all wrong..end of story!!”
Deadspin said that the tip couldn’t be confirmed because Adam’s profile is not public, but the avatars apparently match for both mother and son. The latter is not a Penn State student and lives in Wilkes-Barre, PA, according to the report.
While getting grounded on Facebook is something decidedly new age, we think Adam had this one coming.
