“Ohio State Week” here at Lost Lettermen would not be complete without a look back at the interception by safety Will Allen that helped the Buckeyes secure the national title during the 2002 season.
The pick took place in the final game of the regular season, a 14-9 victory over rival Michigan, at the end of which Allen intercepted Wolverines QB John Navarre near the goal line as time expired to preserve the victory.
The win over Michigan meant more than just bragging rights; it gave OSU the Big Ten title and sent it to the Fiesta Bowl, where it famously beat Miami (FL), 31-24, in double overtime for the national title.
A fourth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Bucs in 2004, Allen currently is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Will Allen profile
