The Jimmy V Perseverance Award was given to paralyzed former Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand, who gave an inspiring speech that lasted about five minutes at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night.
LeGrand – who spoke in his wheelchair as the whole audience stood – told the story of his paralysis, which took place while LeGrand was trying to make a tackle on special teams in 2010.
He also quoted Jimmy V, saying “don’t give up, don’t ever give up” is a motto by which he lives. LeGrand admitted that his dream was to play in the NFL; now it’s just to stand up and walk again.
