Skinny
The Aztecs have kept the momentum going after the departure to Michigan of coach Brady Hoke, who led SDSU to nine wins and a bowl victory in 2010. They kept it going in 2011 under Rocky Long, making a second straight bowl apperance for the first time in school history. In 2012, the Aztecs will lose heralded RB Ronnie Hillman and QB Ryan Lindley. We’re not so sure that SDSU will make a third straight bowl in what looks to be a transition year – in more ways than one.
Consider that San Diego State will move to the Big East in 2013. Yes, that’s right – the Southern California school in the Big East, which, admittedly, is no longer centric to the Eastern seaboard. But we are still reminded of the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Going Back to ‘Cali.” Because, you know, the Aztecs soon will spend a lot of time making trips back, back to Cali, Cali afrer long road trips. In the meantime, the Aztecs will lay their heads in the Mountain West for one more season.
