LaBelle Countersuing Ex-Army CB King

Famous R&B singer Patti LaBelle has filed a countersuit against former Army football player Richard King.

LaBelle claims in the suit that King peppered her with racial insults before she ordered her bodyguards to beat him up, for which he is suing her.

King reportedly was beaten while he was in his hometown, Houston, for spring break on March 11. According to a lawsuit filed by King, he was beaten after LaBelle thought he was standing too close to her luggage at the airport.

At the time, LaBelle’s people claimed that King – who would have been a fifth-year senior this fall – was drunk, disorderly and causing problems.

Whatever the case may be, they sent him to the hospital, inflicted possible football career-ending injuries, caused his demotion from second lieutenant to private and now led to him being deployed for active duty after the limo driver – LaBelle’s son – filed a report with police.

It’s unclear what happened that day, but it seems a bit heartless for a singer worth millions to sue a college-aged kid recovering from injuries.

    The thing with the concussion … if you read up on him… you would know he’d already had 8 or 9 concussions. He was already out the whole 2009 season because of them. So I don’t think there’s a way to identify this as the only reason his college career is over.

    Also, the academy kicked him out and when this thing came up, West Point officials basically implied that this wasn’t “the only” reason he was kicked out of the service. It’s obvious this wasn’t his first similar incident.

    I only saw it once, so I’m not sure this is true, but the hospital report said he was legally intoxicated.

    mjs, no you have it wrong. He was kicked out for violating the Army code which was based on the police report. He had no prior serious violations at the academy. King practiced in the spring with the team, but doctors now say the extent of the damage will keep him out this fall, essentially ending his football career (he’s a “5th year” senior)
