Southern Miss to Wear ’70 Throwbacks

Southern Miss will wear throwback uniforms this fall to commemorate its football centennial.

The Golden Eagles, whose first football season was in 1912, will wear unis in honor of their 1970 team. There will be black and yellow colors – the yellow on the pants and big, black numbering, along with the same color on the shoulder.

The yellow helmet will be an oversized “S” next to a smaller “M.” Southern Miss has decided to honor the 1970 team because of its memorable upset over in-state rival Ole Miss, which was undefeated at the time and had QB Archie Manning at the helm.

According to reports, the uniforms will be worn on Oct. 20, when the Golden Eagles face Marshall in their homecoming game.

We aren’t always a fan of throwback or alternative uniforms, but these really bring out the nostalgia.
