It’s not every day that a teenage girl is charged with beating up an ex-NFL player.
But The Virginian-Pilot reported Friday that a 16-year-old girl has been charged in a “mob assault” of 72-year-old ex-Tennessee and NFL linebacker Ed Beard, who allegedly was attacked by a group last year.
The newspaper reported that Beard was attacked while riding his bicycle near Portlock Primary School in Chesapeake, VA, with his dog in the front basket. The report said that Beard saw a group of teenagers beating up another boy and, when he tried to stop it, the group allegedly assaulted him.
The 16-year-old girl is the fifth person to be charged in the incident. She was charged with with malicious wounding and malicious wounding by mob, according to the report, but her name was not released by the newspaper since it was filed in juvenile court.
The newspaper said that James Richardson-Jackson, 16, pleaded guilty as an adult to four felonies in the case last month. Tyhir Richardson, 15, Joseph Morgan, 16 and Jalen Riddick, 17, are the other three who were charged, the report said.
Through it all, though, Beard retained a sense of humor. He even told the newspaper how he can see the headline being written in connection with the latest arrest.
“Former NFL linebacker beaten up by a girl,” Beard said, reportedly with a laugh.
