Joe Amendola was in a joking mode while entering the courthouse on Friday to defend alleged child molester and ex-Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, which is in its sixth day of testimony.
Check below for a series of tweets from ABC 27 News, which has a feed dedicated specifically to news from the Sandusky trial:
“#Sandusky attorney Amendola just compared his case to a ‘soap opera…like General Hospital, change that, like All my Children.’”
You can’t make that up. In the greatest scandal in college football history that will likely send Sandusky to prison for life, his lawyer decided to make a heinous joke comparing children of alleged sexual abuse crimes to a soap opera whose name serves as a pun in this case.
Of course, maybe we should have see it coming with Amendola, who has made head-scratching decisions since representing Sandusky – including allowing him to get eviscerated in an interview with Bob Costas. Amendola also has a history of his own, reportedly impregnating a teenager in the 1990s and later marrying her.
It’s just the latest surreal turn in one of the most bizarre defense we have ever seen.
