Robert Nkemdiche, the top overall football recruit in the nation for the Class of 2013, has surprised most by choosing Clemson over SEC schools Alabama, Ole Miss and Georgia – among others.
A 6-foot-5, 270-pound game-changing defensive end from Georgia, Nkemdiche was thought to be leaning toward the Crimson Tide because of their recent success and a tie to the school from Nkemdiche’s high school coach, Mickey Conn, who played at ‘Bama.
However, Conn apparently had a more significant connection – to Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, who was Conn’s roommate in Tuscaloosa.
Nkemdiche’s decision sent the Twitterverse into overdrive, with the masses sending out sarcastic tweets about Clemson’s rare victory over Alabama. Check below for some examples, tweets which truly roasted the goofy Swinney.
Tweeted Virginia Tech blog The Key Play: “Robert Nkemdiche, the top recruit in the country, committed to Clemson. Dabo promising players they get to call plays is really working out.”
Tweeted Texas site Orangebloods.com: “I’m interested to hear if Dabo told Nkemdiche he could play all 11 spots on defense. Might have been more successful against WVU that way.”
Tweeted AUtitude: “Boy…… Dabo Swinney has offered everyone at Grayson HS a scholarship just to get Robert Nkemdiche to come to Clemson”
And, finally, tweeted IT’S DABO – a fake Swinney account: “NOT BAD SINCE I CANT PRONOUNCE HIS NAME! DOES “RAH-BERT” SOUND RIGHT?!? @PaulStrelow247 No. 1 prospect Robert Nkemdiche commits to Clemson”
Looks like Swinney will get the last laugh, though.
