SEC! SEC! SEC!
That should have been Dan Mullen’s response to Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes, who recently told the Monroe News-Star that he didn’t see a difference between the players on Mississippi State of the SEC and his own team from the WAC.
“Last year we played Mississippi State, and I swear to you there was no difference in our players and theirs,” Dykes told the Monroe News-Star. “I was shocked. There was no difference. They might’ve had a little more depth, but across the board our players were about as good as theirs.”
Of course, Tech gave MSU all it could handle last year, when Mississippi State barely held on for a 26-20 overtime victory. A late turnover by Tech caused it to miss out on a game-winning field goal in regulation and it couldn’t win it in overtime.
How did Mullen fire back on Thursday?
“I guess if the players are equal we must have better coaches here at Mississippi State since we won,” Mullen told the Clarion-Ledger of Jackson, MS, by phone. “But they are a very good football team. Sonny does a great job with their program.”
Passive-aggressively diplomatic, don’t you think?
