“UCLA Week” continues with a look at the Bruins’ 2005 meeting with Cal, which UCLA won, 47-40, thanks to five touchdowns from running back Maurice Jones-Drew.
Jones-Drew did it from all angles, catching a short pass from Drew Olson and sprinting down the sideline for the go-ahead, 28-yard score with 1:35 remaining in the game. He provided the final margin with a four-yard TD run as time expired.
The diminutive Jones-Drew – then known just as Maurice Jones – added two more TD runs and an 81-yard punt return for a score in his remarkable day. He totaled 65 yards on the ground, 52 through the air and 182 combined in kick and punt returns.
Jones-Drew, who helped the Bruins outscore the Bears, 19-3, in the fourth quarter that day, currently is a running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Maurice Jones-Drew profile
