The reason we list three quarterbacks instead of two is because Lee had surgery on his throwing elbow and was out all of spring. He’s the returning starter but was anemic at times last season. In the Big 12 title game, he completed six passes for 39 yards – in the entire game! And his injury makes the quarterback race wide open.

Green passed for 155 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 12 yards during Nebraska’s spring game. He appeared in eight games last season and went 33 of 62 for 317 yards and two touchdowns.
Martinez hasn’t seen any game action but was the most impressive during the spring game, throwing two touchdowns and rushing for 60 yards.
The coaches made a point in saying that Lee wasn’t the presumed starter, which leads us to believe they truly want these three to compete for the starting spot. Martinez is the fan favorite because he brings excitement to a position that has lacked a solid starter in years. Martinez the best runner of the three and offensive coordinator Shawn Watson’s offense will feature more quarterback runs this season. But expect Lee to start on Day One.
