Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who had a star-studded freshman season, was arrested Thursday on drug charges, the school announced Friday.
The press release said that Watkins was charged with possession of a controlled substance and simple possession of marijuana. According to the school, police smelled marijuana in a car Watkins was driving after a traffic stop.
Watkins had 82 catches for 1,219 yards and 12 TDs for the Tigers, who made a run to the Orange Bowl in 2011.
