Skinny:
There was a time when Boston College was an annual power. But the Eagles have fallen on hard times under coach Frank Spaziani, who sits on an extremely hot seat after he followed two bowl losses with a four-win campaign in 2011. Boston College started the season at 2-7 last fall with wins over FCS UMass and bottom-feeding Maryland. The Eagles even lost to Duke. It barely could get worse. Wins over NC State and Miami (FL) in two of the regular season’s last three games perhaps saved Spaziani’s job.
We don’t see much hope in 2012. Despite bringing back 18 starters, the Eagles lose two incredibly important players in NFL draft pick LB Luke Kuechly, a star for Eagles who was unable to lift their defense from the bottom in most categories. B.C. also booted out RB Montel Harris, the school’s all-time leading rushter. That’s why we are reminded of the legendary song “Dream On” from Aerosmith, a band that originates from Boston. As the band sang: “The past is gone/It went by, like dusk to dawn/Isn’t that the way/Everybody’s got the dues in life to pay.” And that’s exactly what Boston College is in the process of doing.
