Texas A&M has yet to play a game in the SEC, and Kevin Sumlin has yet to coach one for the Aggies – but a rivalry with Florida already is brewing.
Sumlin, who arrived at Texas A&M from Houston, has responded to Florida coach Will Muschamp, who took a shot at the Aggies’ home last week.
“You ever been to College Station? It’ll be the only time you go,” Muschamp said to a group of Gators fans, according to the Lakeland (FL) Ledger.
Sumlin’s response on Wednesday? “He needs to worry about his own team,” Sumlin said, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Granted, there wasn’t anything crazy in that exchange; in fact, Clay Travis of Outkick the Coverage characterized it as the “lamest war of words ever.” We can’t argue.
But it’s interesting that A&M – which officially will join the SEC on July 1 – will play it’s first game in the league on Sept. 8 against … wait for it … Florida in College Station.
Something tells us the 12th Man won’t have a warm welcome for the Gators.
