While Kentucky no longer will face rival Indiana on the hardwood – for the time being, at least – it may add to Duke to its schedule.
Wildcats coach John Calipari, writing on his website Coachcal.com, said that he and Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski are in talks to start a multi-year Kentucky-Duke series that would be played at neutral sites.
We think it would be a great annual event considering the history between the teams in the NCAA tournament, which, as everyone knows by now, is highlighted by Christian Laettner’s memorable game-winning shot in 1992.
Calipari also said that, after taking next season off, the ‘Cats will resume a series in 2013-14 with North Carolina, which will alternate campus sites based on where Kentucky plays Louisville. If they play the Cardinal at home, for example, the Wildcats will travel to play the Tar Heels.
Finally, Calipari mentioned that Kentucky and Baylor are trying to set up a men’s and women’s double-header, which would feature the 2012 men’s and women’s champs, at massive Cowboys Stadium in 2013-14 in an attempt to set the NCAA attendance record.
No one can say that Coach Cal plays cupcakes.
