West Virginia center Deniz Kilicli is known around the Big East for being a banging brute on the interior – just the way that Bob Huggins likes it.
Oh yeah, and there’s his beard.
But we’ve seen beards on basketball players. What we haven’t seen is a 6-foot-9 bearded native of Turkey who is one heck of a guitar player. And that’s how we can describe Kilicli.
Thanks to The Big Lead for tipping us off to this story from the Times West Virginia of Kilicli’s guitar skill and his friendship with a WVU student named Mike Martin, who now performs along with the Mountaineers’ big man.

“He’s the best guitar player I’ve ever seen personally, and I’ve seen some good guitar players,” Martin said, according the newspaper. “And he taught himself how to play. In fact, he learned the English language from watching TV, watching ‘Family Ties.’”
