If Spartans fans need something to fire them up months before the start of the 2012 season, we can provide that during “Michigan State Week” here at Lost Lettermen.
Check the video below of Indiana coach Bill Mallory’s postgame speech after the Spartans beat his Hoosiers, 27-3, to clinch the Big Ten title in 1987. Mallory congratulated his opponents then sent them into an uproar when he encouraged them to kick USC’s a** in the Rose Bowl.
MSU posted a 20-17 victory over the Trojans in the 1988 Rose Bowl – the last appearance in the “Grand Daddy of Them All” for the Spartans. Mallory, for his part, coached IU until 1996.
With the way Mark Dantonio has Michigan State playing in the last two seasons – both 11-win campaigns – we could see a return to Pasadena soon for Sparty.
