If the forecast for high school basketball star Jabari Parker is true, the head of ESPN’s Skip Bayless just may pop off.
You see, Parker is on the cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated, which says that the 17-year-old and No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2013 is the best high-school basketball player since LeBron James.
But it also goes on to point out that Parker’s faith is more important to him than becoming as good as James on an NBA basketball court.
That’s where Bayless comes in. As Business Insider points, we could be talking about a combination of LeBron and Tim Tebow – the scholastic basketball star and the openly God-fearing athlete.
For his part, Parker is a Mormon who may have to make a decision between a religious mission and the 2014 NBA draft, according to SI. He is a 6-foot-9 small forward from Chicago who has many of the nation’s top teams – including North Carolina, Kentucky and Kansas – chasing after him.
Hopefully Parker turns out to be the next James and not the next Felipe Lopez.
