We continue with “USC Week” at Lost Lettermen with a look at the 2009 matchup between the Trojans and cross-town rival UCLA, which nearly ended in an all-out brawl.
With USC holding a two-touchdown lead and the ball with 52 seconds left, UCLA called timeout instead of letting the time run down in a game that already had been decided. In response, USC called a play-action pass coming out of the break and scored on a 48-yard throw and catch between Matt Barkley and Damian Williams.
The Trojans celebrated the score as if it were a tie-breaker, slapping hands wildly and jumping up and down in unison on the sideline. That brought UCLA’s players out near midfield as they had to be restrained by coaches and staff members to avoid a fight.
Check the video below, which the shows the sequence in what eventually was a 28-7 victory for the Trojans.
