On Saturday LSU honored Rudy Macklin, one of the school’s most legendary basketball players, by retiring his jersey. His No. 40 jersey now hangs beside Pete Maravich’s No. 23, Shaquille O’Neal’s No. 33, and Bob Pettit’s No. 50. Not bad company. Macklin led the Tigers to the Final Four and was the SEC Player of the Year in 1981 (his senior year). Today he runs the Louisiana Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness in Sports.
