Tim Stratton: November 4th Mailbag

Purdue’s Tim Stratton answers fan mail about the John Mackey Award (top TE), his current job and the Boilers’ blowout loss to Wisconsin on Saturday.

Q: #89 who gets your vote for the Mackey Award this year? With Gresham out I’ve got to give my vote to Pitta out at BYU, though I’m not sure how inflated those stats are. — KDawg2

A: There have many outstanding plays made by tight ends this year and it is going to be a tough decision. I’d like to be able to share who I think are the frontrunners for the position but as a John Mackey Selection Committee member, I am unable to share this at this time.

Q: Hi Tim, love the blog! I see on your profile that you work at Quoizel lighting, but what do you do there? Thanks – Lindsay

A: Hey Lindsay, I work in sales for Quoizel. I cover Illinois, Indiana, western Michigan, and southeastern Wisconsin.

Q: How does any Purdue team only get 141 yards of offense like we did this past week in Madison. I’ve never seen an offense that putrid. – Marty T.

A: Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the game as I was trick or treating with my 2 year old Ava and then I had to coach our team that night in the first round of the Illinois state playoffs. From what I saw from the stats, it looks like Purdue made a bunch of mental mistakes on special teams and offensively. Camp Randall is a difficult place to play in but I feel the Boilers could have represented much better.

Hopefully the Boilers will go in the “Big House” this weekend and take care of the Wolverines who look much improved from last year. Key to the game: Get in the freshman QB’s head and knock him down a few times to get him out of rhythm. Good luck to the Boilers.

Tim Stratton won the 2000 Mackey Award for the nation’s best tight end. He now resides in Chicago and is a sales rep for the Quoizel Inc. lighting company.
