Michigan’s Mike Keller says the players who alleged coach Rich Rodriguez violated NCAA practice guidelines should get out of the program.
The accusations thrown toward Rich Rodriguez were being made by quitters. I mean, we had guys that were unhappy with the program when I played. But if you don’t want to be here, get the hell out.
Maybe that’s how some of the players are a little bit different today. Some feel it’s owed to them or that they shouldn’t have to work hard or they shouldn’t have to pay the price. Well, the cranky old farts like myself, we just look back on it and think, “Whatever you need to do to be successful, you have to do.” And if you see some guys working hard and you don’t want to work that hard, then get the hell out of here.
Go to the Diag or go to the Arboretum and smell the flowers. Don’t complain about working hard and don’t complain about paying the price. Who wants to listen to you?
It’s the same way in the business world and everywhere else. You can’t work down to the lowest common denominator. You have to work up to the highest. So, if there are guys who want to work and you want to play, then you better work as hard as them.
I think the Michigan football coaches are doing what they should be within the scope of their jobs. There are a few players who feel that they’re being forced to work hard by other players who are working hard. And those guys think this work ethic is being generated by the coaches but I disagree. I think it’s being generated by the successful players and guys who want to do the extra work in order to be successful.
I think anybody that has gone through the Michigan football program will say, “Hey, quit your bitching.” You’re either part of the solution or you’re part of the problem. If you’re bitching about having to work too hard, you’re part of the problem. Just let them work as hard as they want and stop complaining about it. The hard work is part of the fun.
I guarantee you it’s a hell of a lot more fun being 4-0 than being 3-9. So, if this year’s team worked harder this season then this is the fruit that they’re enjoying right now.
Where are the guys bitching now? They’re not anymore.
