Brent Johnson: Gibson Even Better in Practice

Former Ohio State linebacker Brent Johnson breaks down OSU’s next great defensive player: DE Thad Gibson.

If you were around here and saw him in spring practice last year, at least from what I saw, I thought he would break the record for a sacks in a year.

No one on our team could block him. If it was a seven-step drop, he pretty much had a sack every time.

What’s not to like? I love his athletic ability. He’s been a much better tackler so far this year. He’s really fast off the corner.

He does a great of slowing down good, athletic quarterbacks that may like to run the option. He pursues great from the backside.

He’s actually pretty disciplined. He doesn’t get caught on reverses. He doesn’t get out of position all that often.

I think our defense is so good, offenses can’t just focus on slowing him.

Nathan Williams does a great job of holding down the other side. He’s very athletic. He’s got a lot of power. He’s a pretty good speed rusher.

So, if opposing offenses are going to concentrate their efforts on Thaddeus’s side, Nathan Williams will probably get there.

Both ends can put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks.
