We continue our summer series 20 Questions with West Virginia’s Mike Gansey. His Mountaineers became America’s favorite underdog during their ’05 run to the Elite Eight. Today Gansey plays for the NBDL’s Erie Bayhawks.

1. Favorite teammate ever and why?
Steve Gansey. In high school I got to play with my brother when I was a senior and he was a freshman.

2. Best player you’ve ever faced and why?
Chris Paul. He is so fast and is one of the best players in the NBA.

3. Favorite arena/stadium you ever played in?
Madison Square Garden.

4. Most prized sports possession?
A Jerry West autographed Lakers jersey written out to me.

5. School I almost went to instead of alma mater?
University of Utah

6. Thing people don’t realize about your sport?
It is a TON of work. Always in the gym and weight room constantly. Takes a lot of hard work to play the game of basketball.

7. Favorite sports memory as a player?
Beating Wake Forest and Chris Paul in NCAA Tournament to advance to Sweet 16.

8. Worst sports memory as a player?
As a senior losing to Texas in the Sweet Sixteen on a buzzer beater.

9. Favorite sports memory as a kid?
Playing varsity basketball as a freshman in high school.

10. Sports hero growing up?
Chris Mullin

11. Favorite announcer?
Cleveland Cavaliers (radio) play-by-play Joe Tait and ESPN’s Bill Raftery.

12. Favorite coach you ever played for?
High school coach Pat Donahue and John Beilein.

13. Best advice he ever gave you?
Hard work pays off and never give up.

14. First thing you’d do if you ran the NCAA?
Not expand the NCAA tournament field and let the coaches work with the players on the court year-round.

15. One thing people don’t know about you?
I love to snowmobile.

16. Favorite movie?
“The Hangover”

17. Actor that would play you in a movie?
Robert DeNiro
