When you’re named Basil Smotherman, you’re just destined to do great things.
Yes, that’s his real name. Smotherman is a three-star small forward and Purdue commit from the Class of 2013 who provided a five-star shot recently. The native of Indianapolis, IN, grabbed a defensive rebound in the paint and launched a nearly full-court shot that hopped off the rim and in on Feb. 24 for Lawrence North High School, the alma mater of Greg Oden and Mike Conley.
Check out the video below, in which the crowd reacts almost as if someone has squeaked in a layup before the halftime buzzer. We know Lawrence North fans are used to great basketball, but show a little excitement for one of the greatest high school shots we have ever seen.
Even better? Smotherman hit two free throws with 10.6 seconds left for a 63-60 win at home on senior night.
